Supporting net-zero school builds for a brighter future.
Colliers Project Leaders provided project management services for the construction of Mansfield Elementary School, located in Mansfield, Connecticut. The new school replaced the town’s existing three elementary schools, bringing all students together under one 80,000 gsf space. It is one of the first net zero energy schools in Connecticut and in the New England region.
The primary technologies that allow Mansfield to achieve net zero energy are ground-source (also known as geothermal) heat pumps and solar photovoltaic panels. The heat pumps are integrated with over 60 wells on the property and provide all-electric, highly efficient heating and cooling. The 1,000+ photovoltaic panels mounted on the roof are sized to off-set that electric load, as well as the other building loads, to allow the building to generate as much energy as it consumes and be net-zero energy.
As project manager, Colliers was the Owner’s Representative for the entire Mansfield project, including construction, turnover, and closeout. Our role included analyzing constructability, serving as the main point of contact between contractors and designers, representing the town at key meetings, monitoring the project schedule and budget, auditing quality assurance and quality control procedures, and providing monthly reporting, among other items.
