Contributing to educational encouragement.
When the East Greenwich Public Schools embarked upon a process to develop a School Facilities Strategic Plan, we were awarded a contract to assess the current conditions of the district’s six buildings, facilitate a process of identifying modern educational and community needs, and develop a plan for the renovation, expansion, and construction of space for the district.
During the Summer and Fall of 2006, we conducted a facilities conditions assessment, space quantification & utilization analysis, and program modernization planning study. These components ultimately were compiled into a School Facilities Strategic Plan for the district. The assessments included a thorough analysis of the existing conditions of the district’s six buildings (approximately 350,000 square feet).
The process also included engaging the School Committee, a Facilities Sub-Committee, School Administration, staff, and community members in a participatory process to garner support and input. We developed planning options and financial models for renovation and construction needs based on information identified through this process. We also supported the district in compiling an application for state funding as well as documentation for a town referendum.
As the district embarked upon the renovation, expansion, and construction of its public schools, it retained Colliers Project Leaders to provide project management and commissioning services for a number of projects, including:
- East Greenwich High School: Renovation and expansion project included a new state-of-the-art science wing and the expansion of administrative areas as well as security upgrades. Renovations included various other building repairs which were identified during the assessment of the school’s existing conditions.
- Frenchtown Elementary School: Membrane roof replacement project.
- Cole Middle School: New 110,000 square foot facility for 620 students, allowing for the relocation of 6th graders from the elementary school to the new middle school. The project was constructed in adherence to Northeast Collaborative for High Performance Schools (NE-CHPS) protocols.
- Meadowbrook Elementary School: Renovation of 40,000 square foot 1970’s building to address severe water intrusion and mechanical systems problems. Scope of work included complete building hazardous materials abatement, removal of the flooring system and installation of a new vapor barrier solution, installation of new heating and ventilation systems, and general building repairs.
In addition, we have been engaged to update our previously completed facilities planning efforts including a facilities conditions assessment to update our original inventory of identified needs, a space needs study to update the list of prioritized space needs, and present our findings to the Building Committee.
