Molecular imaging facility at world renowned cancer institute.
Development of a new Molecular Cancer Imaging Facility (MCIF, or the “Project”) which will be used to develop new radionuclide, radio ligands and probes. It will support a cyclotron vault, hot lab, specialty lab housing hot cells and a QA/QC lab.
The Project is located next to the Lurie Family Imaging Center (LFIC) and will support it with radionuclide for imaging experimentation. The expansion of the Project’s space was achieved by “breaking out” of the existing building’s envelope using a curtain wall system. Core to the operations of the MCIF will be the GE PETrace 800 Series Cyclotron. Logistics and installation of the Cyclotron and Hot cells are complex operations that need extensive coordination. Another challenge was that the mechanical equipment, which was a prefabricated, is located on the roof 8 floors above the space. In order to meet the strict DFCI and State Radiation safety regulation complex Radiation monitoring and safety systems was built into the project requiring specialized contractors and vendors.
