NEW YORK, NY – October 8, 2019 – Colliers Project Leaders USA is pleased to announce that it has been selected to deliver project management and owner’s representative services on the extensive renovation of the Hispanic Society Museum & Library in Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood. With an experienced cultural development project team led by Senior Director Eric Hahn, Colliers will lead the comprehensive construction work to modernize the Hispanic Society buildings to revitalize an important piece of New York City’s culture while also preserving the architectural heritage of the landmark buildings.

The Hispanic Society and Colliers have devised a phased project plan to continue select museum operations for special events and exhibitions, while educational programs will continue to take place at New York City public schools and concerts will take place at select venues in Upper Manhattan. Currently, the Sorolla Gallery, showing Joaquin Sorolla’s Vision of Spain, as well as the library are open by appointment. During the second phase of the project, Colliers and the Hispanic Society will unveil a new Special Exhibition Gallery featuring rotating exhibitions throughout the remainder of the construction process.

Mitchell Codding, Executive Director and President of the Hispanic Society explained “the Hispanic Society’s mission is of ever-increasing importance to the growing Hispanic and Latino communities in the U.S. It is imperative that we upgrade our facilities so that visitors can fully appreciate the breadth, depth, and quality of this world-renowned collection. We are committed to deepening our engagement with wider audiences and use this opportunity to build on our mission and serve as a leading center for Hispanic and Latino art and culture.”

With more than 900 paintings and 6,000 watercolors and drawings, the Hispanic Society offers a comprehensive survey of Spanish painting and drawing, including masterworks by El Greco, Velázquez, Goya and Sorolla. Similarly, the collection of sculpture contains magnificent examples of ceramics, glass, furniture, textiles, ironwork and jewelry abound among the more than 6,000 objects in the Society’s varied collections of decorative arts. The Library offers unrivaled resources for researchers interested in the history and culture of Spain, Portugal, Latin America and the Philippines, with more than 300,000 books, periodicals and documents dating from the 11th century to the present.
