Colliers Project Leaders USA Delivers the Brearley School’s New 12-story Building Housing the Lower School, State-of-the-Art Performance Hall and Science Classrooms

December 11, 2019

NEW YORK, NY – December 11, 2019 – Colliers Project Leaders USA is pleased to announce the completion of a new school building for The Brearley School at 590 East 83rd Street. The historic and top-ranked independent all-girls’ school, founded in Manhattan in 1884, has been located at 610 East 83rd Street since 1929. Brearley commissioned Colliers to deliver a new facility to meet the School’s program needs and provide additional essential space for students in all divisions. 610 East 83rd will continue to serve as a home base for the middle and upper schools. The Colliers team, led by Eric Hahn, Senior Director, delivered project management services on the $85 million, ground-up design and construction for the 12-story, 83,750-square foot-facility, as well as the demolition of three existing, five-story apartment buildings on the site.

Located 280 feet from the historic 610 East 83rd Street building, 590 East 83rd Street serves as home base for the Lower School with its own library, art and science rooms and indoor and outdoor play spaces. The building also includes a science center for Classes VIII-XII with an independent research lab, a regulation-size gymnasium and a large, flexible auditorium for assemblies, events and performances for Classes K-XII. The new building allows Brearley to continue to remain an integral part of the Upper East Side while creating a vital new space for students from across New York City and beyond.

“Colliers is honored to deliver an advanced facility for this storied and highly regarded school,” said Hahn. “This new building will help empower the school’s educational excellence for generations of Brearley students to come.”
